Keidran Jones, stage name Iyaz, was born to a musical family on the beautiful island of Tortola. His father toured with a singing group and his mother directed church choirs. Therefore, he grew up surrounded by music. Jones studied digital recording at New England Institute of Technology, Rhode Island. His father and sister also attended at the same time and they even participated in some of the same classes. Iyaz later recorded a single, ‘Island Girls’ with some of his friends. Even though it was recorded using basic equipment, Iyaz had the skills to make it sound like it had been recorded in a million-pound studio. The song became a massive hit across the islands.
Iyaz, was later noticed in 2008 by Sean Kingston, who contacted him via social media. After some hesitation, he responded to Sean Kingston and was later signed to his label, Time is Money Entertainment partnered with Beluga Heights.
Iyaz’ debut single ‘Replay’ which was released in July 2009, made it to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified multi-platinum by RIAA and reached the top 10 in multiple countries.
Iyaz has gone on to release a number of hit songs. He has also made TV appearances on Hannah Montana. Iyaz’ song writing skills are said to be timeless and universal. He ensures that he perfects each song before moving on to the next. Iyaz uses his music to tell a story which conjures up visual scenarios that tug at the listener’s heart strings. He describes his music as clean, and that it is. He doesn’t use curse words or negative themes to express the emotion in his songs. Iyaz, we look forward to your continued musical success, Caribbean1st absolutely salutes you.
