Heritage Day in Dominica is celebrated during the independence festivities each year. It is part of Creole Week celebration. Dominicans are a proud and patriotic people who take pride in their country. Heritage Day takes place in a different village or community each year to celebrate that village’s uniqueness and to award it for its contribution in preserving the cultures, traditions and heritage of the country. Dominicans from all over the island gather to celebrate. Dressed in national wear, people dance and sing to songs in the native Creole language.
