ST. LUCIA FOOD & RUM FESTIVAL

ST. LUCIA FOOD & RUM FESTIVAL
We happened to be staying at Coco Palm Hotel in Rodney Bay during the time of the Food and Rum Festival, which was from 12th-14th January. It was via the hotel that we heard about the festival, in particular the Rodney Bay Culinary Pavilion, which was taking place right outside of the hotel.
The hotel was also holding a special ticketed dinner at the hotel, as part of the festival. Days before the festival we could see the hotel preparations taking place. A huge stage was set up in the pool and various marquees were also erected.
The festival took place over a few days, but we decided to take a stroll down the road from the hotel, on the Saturday evening to see what the Rodney Bay Culinary Pavilion had to offer. We bought some dishes from the stand that had been set up just in front of the hotel, that were absolutely delicious. We then took a stroll down the road to see what else the festival had to offer. Not overly crowded, but with a good amount of visitors, we took in the atmosphere, as we walked past various stands selling food and drinks as well as offering free samples. Live music by various different bands added to the chilled atmosphere of the evening. Deciding what stall to buy from was not an easy task, as there was a variety of stalls, all with magnificently presented dishes prepared, both savoury and sweet.

We eventually settled on one, made our purchase and were about to head back to the hotel, when we were stopped in our tracks by a procession approaching.
The procession and finale for the night featured fire breathers and dancers, traditional performers, masqueraders, stilt walkers and drummers, what a spectacular ending to our evening!
